Mt. Kanlaon records 16 volcanic earthquakes; New Poctoy White Beach, Torrijos inaugurated today

Yesterday, Phivolcs recorded three (3) volcanic earthquakes on Mount Kanlaon. Today, Sept 8th as of 8:00 am Phivolcs monitored as follows:

Kanlaon Volcano’s seismic monitoring network recorded sixteen (16) volcanic earthquakes during the past 24 hours. Degassing at the active vents could not be observed due to thick clouds covering the summit. Ground deformation data from continuous GPS measurements indicate inflation of the edifice since December 2015. Sulfur dioxide (SO2) emission was measured at an average of 1 tonne per day on September 6, 2017.

Mt. Kanlaon in Negros Island is the country's largest active volcano and Visayas' highest mountain with an elevation of 2,465 m (8,087 ft) above sea level (by comparison, Mount Malindig in Marinduque has an elevation of 1,157 m (3,796 ft).
